John,

Earlier this year, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed SB 1718 into law - an awful list of policies that criminalizes and impacts immigrants in Florida and across the country. This harmful law sets a dangerous precedent, putting immigrants at risk of becoming the target of similar attacks in their home states. Here are a few things that are included in this bill:

  • Providing transportation to undocumented people from outside Florida into the state is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, no matter whether they are family, friends or coworkers.
  • Out-of-state driver licenses for undocumented people are no longer valid in Florida.
  • Hospitals are now required to ask for a patient’s immigration status.

We all know the vital role that immigrants play in our communities, yet DeSantis and the Florida legislature are attacking every aspect of our lives through this harmful law.

Everyone should have the right to feel safe in Florida. Together, we have the collective power to create a Florida where immigrant families can live in certainty and without fear.  Add your name and tell Governor DeSantis - there’s enough sunshine in Florida for all!

By taking away local government funding for community IDs and forcing hospitals to inquire about patients’ immigration status, DeSantis and the Florida legislature are pushing immigrants into the shadows. These policies not only impact immigrant lives but also affect all Floridians who work with, live with, and depend on immigrants.

These hateful policies have no place in Florida. Join us and add your name to send a message to Governor DeSantis - we won't stand for a dangerous anti-immigrant agenda, Florida should be a welcoming state for all residents!

About BlueAmp Action:

We cannot sugarcoat the current situation. Right-wing authoritarianism, defeated by a worldwide coalition during WWII, was only in hibernation. Over the past decade it has infected democratic societies--including ours. It is as simple as it is terrifying: What we do now will define the future of our country and world.

We at Blue Amp Action are dedicated to liberal, open societies, where reason and science are applied to solve our problems; where civil rights--including voting rights!--are protected for all. We fight for these values every day. Speaking up on our platforms, raising the voices and the political prospects of liberal pols and pundits.

And savvy grassroots activists like you know, just like we do, that we can’t stop watching the people we help elect: after the elections, we have to keep organizing support for the policies we like and pushing back against the ones we don’t.

When the public tunes out between elections and the only people our elected officials hear from are the paid lobbyists of wealthy corporations, our government stops being accountable to the needs of ordinary families.

Democracy never sleeps, and neither can we.

So we ask that you support our work, so we can continue to engage in this fight every moment of every day. So our kids grow up in democracy, not dystopia.

Thank you for your support for all we do! Please follow Cliff Schecter on Twitter @cliffschecter, or subscribe to The Takedown with Cliff Schecter on YouTube, to keep up to date with this battle for the heart and soul of our country.
