Standing up for what is right even when it is not easy is one of the responsibilities of public service. That is why I am not backing down when it comes to ensuring our veterans have the resources they need to live full, happy lives.
As it stands, our military's health insurance coverage does not extend to many forms of reproductive assistance, including in vitro fertilization and surrogacy. I have been working with fellow lawmakers to expand the services included for veterans trying to start a family, and provide assistance for service members seeking to freeze their eggs or sperm prior to deployment.
This is not a partisan issue. The service members sacrificing so much to uphold our freedoms should not also have to sacrifice their ability to have a family of their own after they have served.
I have introduced this measure before, and though we have not yet been successful in passing it into law, I will continue to prioritize people and champion the important changes we need in Congress.
I will be in touch soon with an update on this legislation once I reintroduce it in the House. I am honored to be fighting for you and your family in Washington.
