John,
As we head into primary election season, we need to talk about something urgent:
Partisan gerrymandering -- when legislators redraw district maps to choose their voters instead of voters choosing their legislators. And it not only takes away votes, but it also takes away the voice of the people.
Pennsylvania has often been ground zero in this fight. Not long ago, we had a hard-won victory against gerrymandering after years of biased map-making. But right-wing extremists in the state legislature are already back at it again.
Not only is gerrymandering outright wrong, but it also disproportionately takes away representation from communities of color, and impacts how we're counted in the census. And this imbalance of power matters. It's a roadblock to meaningful change for the communities that need it most. That's why I want to hear from my supporters today. Take my one question poll now:
Time and again, gerrymandering has been used as a voter suppression tactic to deprive Black people of political power by the powerful, privileged few consolidating their power at the expense of the people. It's morally corrupt -- and communities of color will feel the sting of these abuses of power first and hardest.
Let me know if I can count on you in the fight against partisan gerrymandering today >>
In solidarity,
Dwight
