[1]Pramila Jayapal
John,
We need to guarantee health care to everyone as a human right — regardless
of immigration status, income, or employment status. Pramila knows what it
feels like to be a young immigrant without federal support. That’s why
she’s proud to introduce the Health Equity and Access under Law (HEAL) for
Immigrant Families Act.
The HEAL Act proposes, for the first time in federal legislation, to allow
states to include undocumented immigrants in Medicaid and CHIP and remove
the 5-year waiting period for Medicare benefits for immigrants.

deserves access to comprehensive and quality health care, please add your
name to our petition and amplify our collective message to Congress. We
need the HEAL Act today.

Immigrants are significantly more likely to be uninsured, leaving them at
higher risk for both adverse health and financial consequences. By next
year, immigrants will account for an estimated 8 percent of the
population, yet they will make up a disproportionate 31 percent of the
non-elderly uninsured population.
In this last year, we’ve seen the ever-constant struggle of bodily
autonomy and freedom of choice come under constant attack at every level.
And it’s clear the Black, Brown, and poor communities will bear the brunt
of these heartless and extreme policies unless we do everything in our
power to stop these attacks.
For too long, discriminatory health care and immigration policy in the
U.S. has limited immigrant access to affordable, comprehensive health
insurance. By working to create a more equitable health care system, we
can create healthier communities and a stronger, more resilient economy.
And we can pave the way for universal healthcare down the road.

to fight for immigrants’ rights. We need as many voices as possible in
support if we want this legislation to make a massive impact in Congress.

Together,
Team Jayapal
