Gov. Whitmer to Deliver ‘What’s Next Address’ in Late August

Following one of the most productive legislative sessions in state history, the governor’s speech will lay out policy priorities for the fall

LANSING, Mich. – Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that she will deliver an address on August 30th outlining policy priorities for the fall.

"This year, we got a heck of a lot done to put money back in people’s pockets, power our economic development efforts, and make record investments in education, housing, workforce programs and so much more,” said Governor Whitmer. "In a few weeks, I look forward to outlining policy priorities for the fall in the What’s Next Address. I’m eager to discuss how we can continue lowering costs, growing our economy, and helping anyone ‘make it’ in Michigan. I look forward to working closely with my partners in the legislature to build a brighter future for Michigan. Let's get it done.” 

During the What’s Next Address, Governor Whitmer will lay out policy priorities for the fall. These proposals will lower costs, make Michigan more competitive, expand opportunity, and protect people’s fundamental rights. Together, they represent the future and will move Michigan forward. 

HOW TO WATCH THE WHAT’S NEXT ADDRESS  

Accomplishments to lower costs, create good-paying jobs, bring supply chains home, and make Michigan a state where everyone can envision their future. In 100 days, we have:

Rolled back the retirement tax saving 500,000 families over $1,000 a year.
Quintupled the Working Families Tax Credit, delivering average combined refunds of nearly $3,200 to 700,000 families. This credit directly benefits half the kids in Michigan, helping families pay bills and put food on the table.
Secured record investments for our community, with a $800 million investment from GM and $3.5 billion that will create 2,500 good-paying jobs at the new Ford facility in Marshall.
Repealed the dangerous 1931 abortion ban.
Expanded the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, reaffirming legal protections for sexual orientation and expanding coverage to include gender identity and expression.
Made record investments in affordable housing and community revitalization projects.
Restored worker's rights by ensuring that workers can bargain together for fair wages and benefits.
