I'm a Mississippi native. I worked in the state to elect other LGBTQ+ candidates and fought for marriage equality in the state, so I know this is going to be a tough fight. Mississippi is one of two states that has never elected and seated an out LGBTQ+ state legislator - we've only elected a handful of LGBTQ+ candidates in the state's history!
If Fabian and Justin win, it will prove that LGBTQ+ candidates can compete – and win! – everywhere, and that the rainbow wave is only just starting. I know what winning will mean to LGBTQ+ youth and the LGBTQ+ community. They deserve a voice in government that will fight for their rights.
