Dear John,
Canadians aged 65 years and older accounted for 18.8% of the population in 2022.
Based on data from Statistics Canada, that number is projected to reach as high as 25.5% by 2043!
What effect will this change have on the Canadian economy?
A new study published by the Fraser Institute today finds that it could lower per person GDP by $11,200.
In other words, Canadians will be poorer than they would have been with a stable seniors’ population.
Canadian policymakers need to embrace a wide range of policies aimed at improving economic growth in order to offset this change.
Read the full study here, and be sure to share it with your friends and colleagues.
Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
President
