An important update from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington

John,

Last summer, President Trump pushed the Ukrainian president to announce investigations of his political opponent in exchange for security aid. Of course, those efforts were anti-democratic and a dangerous abuse of power, and they appropriately sparked President Trump’s impeachment.

But Trump was not the only person involved in the Ukraine scandal. Today, CREW sent federal prosecutors a complaint saying that Rudy Giuliani’s actions in Ukraine were also criminal and must be investigated.

While President Trump was let off the hook by a Senate that decided to ignore devastating evidence and acquit without even hearing from witnesses, criminal law applies to everyone else, including the president’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani. The Hatch Act expressly prohibits the manipulation of federal funds to advance a partisan agenda, and Giuliani’s Ukraine schemes crossed that line. CREW filed a complaint with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York asking them to investigate. Read our criminal complaint against Rudy Giuliani here, and share on Facebook, Twitter, or by forwarding this email.

SDNY is already reportedly conducting a criminal investigation into Giuliani, and this apparent violation should be part of the investigation. When it comes to Rudy Giuliani, there’s a lot to investigate.

CREW’s work is more important than ever before. President Trump and his administration and associates stand emboldened by the Senate’s refusal to hold him accountable, and they have ramped up their attacks on our justice system and the integrity of our democracy. We will not allow that to go unchallenged, and we will continue fighting wrongdoing and corruption wherever we see it. If you can, please contribute to support CREW’s crucial work—we couldn’t do it without you.

Thank you,

Noah Bookbinder
