There are only five more days before Ohioans cast their votes on Issue 1! 

This election will resonate across the country, as other states are also considering measures to restrict ballot initiatives. The outcome of this election may influence how other states approach direct democracy and the initiative process in the future.

Issue 1 is a ballot measure that proposes making it tougher for initiatives to be approved in the state. Currently, initiatives need a simple majority to pass, but Issue 1 would require 60% of voters to approve them. Additionally, starting January 1, 2024, backers of initiatives would need to gather signatures in all 88 Ohio counties, double the current requirement.

Here’s what you can do in these last few days before the election:

 Vote!

Extended voting hours continue through August 6. Make a plan to vote and then contact at least nine friends to educate about Issue 1 and encourage a no vote on August 8. Make sure you bring a photo ID!

Vote Early (In-Person)

August 3-4: 7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

August 5: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

August 6: 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Vote By Mail (At Home)

Deadline to Postmark Absentee Ballot: August 7

Vote on Election Day (Tuesday, August 8)

Polling locations are open 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
