Hi John,
A quick update on fair maps.
You may have seen that a lawsuit was filed today challenging the current voting maps in Wisconsin. For years, you have been in this fight with us demanding fair maps that accurately reflect our communities and give our communities opportunity to thrive.
Wisconsin has the most gerrymandered maps in the country and we can feel the impacts in our everyday lives. Fair maps are crucial to ensuring our state has clean water, clean energy, and a healthy democracy. Without fair maps, people around the state will continue to suffer from a lack of access to safe drinking water.
“The nitrate level in my water is currently at 30 parts per million (ppm),” said Brent Bauer, a Wisconsin Conservation Voters member in western Wisconsin. “A safe level of nitrate in drinking water should not exceed 10 ppm. I had to install a costly reverse osmosis system in my home and purchase bottled water. A lack of regulation to control runoff of chemicals, fertilizer, and liquid manure contribute to the problem.”
Brent is one of many people across the state dealing with nitrate, PFAS, lead, and other water contamination. Fair maps are necessary to ensure our representatives advocate for clean water standards, hold polluters accountable, and center the needs of their constituents.
Over the next several months, the courts will decide the future of Wisconsin’s maps and we know these decisions will have huge impacts on Wisconsinites for years to come. You can read more about the lawsuit here. [[link removed]] As always we will keep you updated and let you know about any actions to take as this process plays out.
Thank you for being in this work with us,
