John—we just had a major victory against U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Five years ago, we uncovered evidence of inhumane conditions in immigration detention in CBP Tucson Sector facilities along our southern border, where up to 63,000 people are apprehended every year. A federal judge just ruled that these conditions are unconstitutional. The government can no longer hold people for over 48 hours without providing a bed, blanket, shower, meals that meet acceptable dietary standards, and an assessment from a medical professional. It took years of litigation to ensure that people in CBP custody are treated with dignity and respect. Consider making a gift to fund litigation that protects the wellbeing of vulnerable individuals arriving at our border.
