Managing stormwater and critical environmental areas in Kingston: get updates on the latest planning efforts at community meeting Aug. 9

The Kingston Community Advisory Council invites the public to join its meeting that takes place 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 9 in-person at the Village Green Community Center, 26159 Dulay Road NE [ [link removed] ], with a virtual option via Zoom.

The meeting will feature a presentation from Kitsap County Department of Public Works with an update on the Kingston regional stormwater facility project [ [link removed] ] underway downtown along Ohio Avenue. Construction will require a partial closure of Ohio Avenue between Central Avenue and Main Street and some other intermittent road closures and traffic delays. The end result will improve stormwater treatment and capacity, add new sidewalks and improve water quality.

The council will also get an overview from the county's Department of Community Development on the review of its Critical Areas Ordinance. Critical areas are considered land with natural features that need to be protected such as wetlands, aquifers, streams and other wildlife habitat, and geologically hazardous or frequently flooded areas. The CAO was last reviewed in 2017 and is being updated in conjunction with the the county's 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update [ [link removed] ], with adoption planned in June 2024. Learn more about the CAO at kcowa.us/CAO [ [link removed] ].

New County Commissioner Christine Rolfes will attend the meeting and meet council members, who will also share announcements about local events and happenings. There are opportunities for public comment. KCAC meetings are a great way to stay up to date on what's happening and find out how to engage with and help improve the community.

The agenda and meeting link are posted on the Kingston Community Advisory Council website [ [link removed] ]. Everyone is welcome!

Applications are open for a high school student to join the council. Details, including a link to the application and position description, are available at kcowa.us/advisorygroups [ [link removed] ].
