Daily Docket — Wednesday, Aug. 2

Here are some recent legal updates.

  • Today, voters filed a lawsuit in the Wisconsin Supreme Court arguing that the state's House and Senate maps are extreme partisan gerrymanders that unfairly favor Republicans in violation of the state constitution.

  • On Monday, disgraced lawyer John Eastman filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Colorado Republican Party to ban unaffiliated voters from the 2024 Republican primary in Colorado. The state holds open primaries and 47% of Colorado voters are not registered with a party.

  • Yesterday, a hearing was set for the entire week of Aug. 14 on whether Alabama's new congressional map complies with a federal court order that required the state to draw a new map with two majority-Black districts.

Here’s what’s coming up.

  • A trial will continue in the election contest over the 189th judicial district election in Harris County, Texas. A defeated Republican candidate has alleged fraud and claims to have won the contest. The trial ends on Aug. 11.
