Dear john,
This past weekend, I joined a bipartisan Congressional Delegation to Germany to visit military installations, including sites where Ukrainian soldiers are being trained. We visited Ramstein Air Base, U.S. Africa Command, U.S. European Command, and the 7th Army Training Command Headquarters.
I also had lunch with service members from Texas, including Daniel Batey, a 2011 graduate of Texas A&M University.
As a Senior Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, I will continue to fight for our military in Congress.

I hosted a webinar to discuss energy funding and consumer tax incentives with the U.S. Department of Energy. Assistant Director of Technical Assistance and Partnerships Michael Forrester and Policy Analyst John Agan discussed a wide range of funding opportunities for South Texas residents.
The webinar focused on funding opportunities made possible by last year’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which is the single largest investment in climate and energy in American history. The IRA includes tax provisions to save families money on energy bills and funding to improve electric services in rural areas.
Last year, I voted for the IRA to make energy funding and consumer tax incentives more available for South Texans. We’re seeing the results of that today. I look forward to continuing our work to deliver for South Texas working families.

I visited the Molina Family Latino Gallery at the National Museum of American History.
I was pleased to see the history and culture of Hispanics and their contributions to our country, including a cape from a family member of Bartolome Garcia (three-time mayor of Laredo and a descendent of Laredo’s founders) and an artist’s rendering of the Battle of the Alamo in San Antonio.
I look forward to working with my Appropriations colleagues to fund the National Museum of the American Latino.

One of my priorities in Congress is to improve the quality of life for South Texans. This week, I’d like to share with you several transportation grant opportunities that my office can help with: - Carbon Utilization Procurement Grants
- The goal of this program is to speed up the adoption of advanced carbon management technologies, creating a market for environmentally sustainable alternatives in fuels, chemicals, and building products sourced from captured emissions from industrial and power generation facilities.
- Energy Future Grants
- Energy Future Grants seek to enhance affordable energy and access for communities, ensuring the broad benefits of a clean energy economy—including health, economic development and jobs, and emissions reductions—flow to disadvantaged communities.
