The June release introduced a multitude of user interface improvements and design enhancements, starting with the new “County Subdivision” box added to the “Most Commonly Used Geographies” section of the Geography filter panel. This update makes it easier to select county subdivisions such as towns, townships, and boroughs. The typeahead search functionality has also been significantly enhanced. Users will now get search suggestions after typing two characters in the single search bar instead of three.

You’ll also notice the filter panel now offers additional options for users to select predefined sets of codes, simplifying the process of refining search results, and improving the overall navigation. In a future update, you will notice these new filter panel categories will contain folders and check boxes when relevant datasets from the International Trade program are added to data.census.gov [ [link removed] ].

We’ve also improved the search term recognition, leading to a more precise result. When a search query doesn’t yield the result you're looking for, you'll see filter matches for your search terms even when the site does not have data tables to support the search criteria. This is indicated by “No results found” and similar messages.

Additionally, new deep links have been introduced enabling you to share a particular section of a Geography or Industry Profile. When you click one of tabs at the top of a profile, the section you navigated to will now be captured in the URL.

In the notes section of American Community Survey data tables, you will now see the “Estimates” section in the notes to indicate whether the table is from the ACS 5-year or ACS 1-year estimates. The added labeling provides better clarity and helps users quickly find information.

Featured Question

*Where can I find data on population and housing unit estimates from the Population Estimates Program?*

We began the process of adding data from the Population Estimates Program to data.census.gov [ [link removed] ]. So, a limited set of tables are available on the site now, and you can access them by selecting "Surveys" → "Population Estimates" → "Population Estimates" in the advanced search [ [link removed] ].

As we work to migrate the remaining tables, you can access the full set of population and housing unit estimates through the Population Estimates Program data tables page [ [link removed] ]. More information on the Population Estimates Program can be found on its webpage [ [link removed] ].
