John,
As our 12 Youth Fellow students prepare to graduate from the fellowship this weekend, we’re already preparing for what’s next.
In addition to training young BIPOC students on the skills they need to be organizers in their communities, our Rooted in Community Leadership PAC also holds an annual Campaign School to train, support, and elect women and people of color who are ready to run for office and win.
In the past, campaign school graduates have gone on to run for Detroit City Clerk, City Council, Board of Police Commissioners, and more. Since graduating from our program, multiple people have already won races for elected office.
To make our programs inclusive and accessible, both our Youth Fellowship and our Campaign School are completely free for participants. We even provide youth fellows with a $1,000 stipend upon graduation. This is all possible because of generous donations to our Rooted in Community Leadership PAC.
Pitch in $5 now to power our Rooted in Community Leadership PAC as we provide people of all ages and backgrounds with the skills they need to give back to their communities and strengthen our multiracial democracy.

Together, we’re providing young people with the skills to organize on the critical issues of our time from environmental justice to gun violence prevention, and we’re training candidates on how to run effective campaigns that are truly rooted in community.
This is how we put the power back in the hands of people, not greedy billionaires and corporations.
Always serving you,
Rashida

John,
If there’s one positive thing that came out of Donald Trump’s presidency, it’s that more people got involved in politics for the first time to fight back against the hate and the harm caused by Trump’s words and actions. In fact, in the 2020 presidential election, half of all young people ages 18 to 29 voted―an 11 point increase from the 2016 election.1
But, young people aren’t just fighting back against hate. They’re getting involved in the critical issues of our time, from environmental justice to the labor movement to reforming our criminal legal system to gun violence prevention, clean water, education justice, and more.
To harness this energy, we started our Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship where we train young people ages 14 to 24 on grassroots organizing and communications, with a focus on training young people of color. From our past graduating classes, 83% of participants went on to become organizers in their communities and 100% are either attending or have graduated from college.
This week, our latest cohort will graduate from the 2023 class and take their new-found skills back to their communities to help organize for change. Our current graduating class of 12 fellows is 100% BIPOC, 85% female, 7% male, and 7% non-binary.
This critical organizing training, and the $1,000 stipend for finishing the course, is made possible through generous donations to our Rooted in Community Leadership PAC.
Donate today to support young people as they seek to give back to their communities and cultivate skills that are critical to the future of our multiracial democracy.
After this week’s Youth Fellowship graduation, we’ll begin preparing for our third annual Rooted in Community Campaign School to train, support, and elect women and people of color who are rooted in community.
Traditionally, two-thirds of participants are women, and that’s intentional. We need more women at all levels of government if we’re going to make the urgent, bold changes that people need in order to survive and thrive. And multiple graduates of our Campaign School have won their races for elected office.
Like me, the candidates we’re training want to better serve the communities that raised them. To ensure that everyone can join—including low-wealth and working-class people—we make this intensive campaign training free for participants.
Pitch in to my Rooted in Community Leadership PAC today to support young people getting involved in their communities and train future candidates who are ready to run for office and serve their communities.
