John -

The past couple months have been hard. In June and parts of July half of
the United States was covered in wildfire smoke. July was the hottest
month in the recorded history of the planet. It certainly gives pause, and
makes me think we need to be doing work that is big and bold, and also
appreciably different than before.

We will share more of our plans soon, but right now our friends in
Appalachia need us to show up in a big way.

Allies like [ [link removed] ]POWHR and [ [link removed] ]Appalachians Against Pipelines have been
battling the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) for years. They have risen to
so many challenges and setbacks, and we have learned so much about
resilience and escalation in the face of formidable odds, and government
leaders who reduce their beloved home to a sacrifice zone. Their work has
been powerful enough that the MVP was a negotiating chip in the debt
ceiling negotiations, and the Supreme Court had to step in last week to
keep construction going.

It's hard to even imagine that a pipeline can be used as a bargaining
tactic, but that is the reality we are facing. With construction now
resuming, we are in an “all hands on deck” situation. It’s time for all of
us to join in solidarity on the pipeline route.

That’s why 350 is supporting groups all over the country as we come
together to learn from our frontline partners and to take some risk to
stop construction. I know it’s a very big ask, but it is one that I
wouldn't be making unless it was vitally important to the future of our
movement:

important action. For those of you not able to come down to Appalachia, we
will continue to share other ways for you to get involved in mass actions,
local fights, and in fighting for climate solutions.

I hope we get to see you over the next couple months in Virginia. Thanks
for all you do.
