Aloha fellow Hawai'i Republican Party Members,
The past month has been filled with activity, changes and forward momentum. Mahalo to both Tim Dalhouse and Lohi Goodwin for their time as volunteers with the party.
On August 1st, the State Executive Committee elected Laura Nakanelua as interim State Chair following the resignation of Lohi Goodwin, who was serving as Vice Chair, Coordinated Campaigns and Interim Chair following Tim Dalhouse’s resignation.
This action was taken because the Party’s order of succession in the absence of an elected chair only directly extends to the Vice Chair, Coordinated Campaigns (Section 407). Although Section 308 allows for another Vice Chair to assume the position of Acting Chair, no current Vice Chair volunteered to take the role. Therefore, the State Executive Committee leveraged Sections 302 to fill the position via secret electronic ballot.
Sections 313 and 405 direct that an election to permanently fill the role will be held at the next scheduled meeting, and if that date is too far out, that a special meeting be called for that purpose. Further, Section 313 states that “it is the duty of any chair temporarily appointed to a position ordinarily filled by election to call a meeting for an election to fill the position.”
Interim Chair Nakanelua and your State Executive Committee are finalizing the procedure to be used for this election to ensure it is comprehensive and fair. We appreciate everyone's patience, further communication and will be provided to all members shortly.
Me ka mahalo nui,
Monique DePonte
Vice Chair of Communications
