ANA BELÉN ZELAYA

We are so excited to introduce to you Ana Belén Zelaya, our new Texas is
Ready Program Coordinator. Before joining the Texas is Ready project, Ana
Belén supported the Texas Foster Youth Health Initiative, a multi-agency
federally funded project that aimed to help young people in the Texas
foster care system feel connected, safe, and empowered to make informed
decisions about their relationships and sexual health. During her tenure
with the project, she co-authored a four-hour sexuality training for
caregivers and mentors to help them feel comfortable with having ongoing
trauma-informed conversations with young people in care regarding their
sexual health and relationships, and co-authored an affirmative and
comprehensive sex education youth curriculum that was co-created with Young
Adult Consultants, called Thrive.

Additionally, Ana Belén is a first-year Master of Public Health student
and a Bloomberg Fellow in Adolescent Health at Johns Hopkins
University.

STRATEGIES TO PROMOTE HEALTHY TEEN RELATIONSHIPS

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has developed Dating
Matters: Strategies to Promote Healthy Teen Relationships [7], a
comprehensive teen dating violence prevention model to stop teen dating
violence before it starts. Dating Matters is an evidence-based teen dating
violence prevention model that includes prevention strategies for
individuals, peers, families, schools, and neighborhoods. It focuses on
teaching 11-14 year olds healthy relationship skills before they start
dating and reducing behaviors that increase the risk for dating violence,
like substance abuse and sexual risk-taking. For questions, contact
[email protected].
