*Gov. Whitmer Announces ?Make it in Michigan? Statewide Legislators Tour*?

"Statewide tour by state representatives and senators will highlight local investments from Fiscal Year 2024 budget to grow economy, power economic development"?

*LANSING, Mich*. ? Today, the ?Make it in Michigan? tour begins with events aimed at highlighting economic development and local investment wins from the recently signed FY2024 budget. Legislators around the state will celebrate their community wins and how these investments will transform their communities so that anyone can ?Make it in Michigan?.??

?The bipartisan Make it in Michigan budget will make a real difference in communities across Michigan by winning projects, investing in people, and revitalizing places,? said *Governor Whitmer*. ?The budget builds on our economic development work, funds workforce programs, and builds housing and community projects to make cities and towns more attractive places to live, work, and invest. I am so grateful to all the legislators who worked hard to get this done, and I look forward to hearing them share the budget?s impact on their respective districts. Let?s continue working together to help anyone 'Make it in Michigan.??

?Our Make it in Michigan budget will double down on investment in Michiganders and remove the barriers they need to succeed,? said *Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II*. ?This budget is about bringing more Michiganders to the table and involving more voices in the process. It belongs to every person in Michigan?from first responders to first grade teachers to the first child in your family. The Make it in Michigan tour will celebrate how the budget is improving peoples? lives and delivering real change. Governor Whitmer and I will continue working hard to grow our economy and build a Michigan where everyone can envision a bright future for themselves.? ?

Throughout August, legislators will hold events at businesses and organizations in their districts that have received state support through the FY2024 budget. These investments will help the organizations, their communities, and Michigan as a whole by making Michigan more competitive in high-demand industries and prompting further economic growth. The grants the entities?receive will create good-paying jobs and bring on additional economic development.?

?The Make it in Michigan budget shows how we are getting things done for our constituents,? said *Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids)*. ?Our new majority for the people has been working together to put the needs of Michigan families first by investing in our communities and growing our economy, while lowering costs and repairing infrastructure. During the Make it in Michigan tour, my colleagues in the legislature will share how the budget we just passed and the governor signed into law benefits the communities they serve. ?The Make it in Michigan budget reinvests in our state at a time when our constituents and communities need it most,? said *Speaker Joe Tate (D-Detroit)*. ?This budget puts people first by investing teachers and students, supporting public safety, expanding access to health care, and putting federal dollars to work repairing roads, bridges and water infrastructure. We?ve passed a budget that rises to meet the challenges our state faces and puts money to work in communities across Michigan.??

This tour follows a month long barnstorm by cabinet officials focused on lowering costs, education, and job creation in the budget.??

In May, Governor Whitmer announced ?Make it in Michigan?, a comprehensive economic strategy to keep winning projects, invest in people from pre-K through postsecondary, and revitalize places in every region of the state. The strategy aims to make Michigan more competitive, a top state for talent, and a state full of vibrant communities where people want to live, work, and grow.??

Yesterday, Governor Whitmer signed the general FY24 budget which will help achieve the goals of ?Make it in Michigan? by growing the economy, lowering costs, and investing in Michigan communities. The FY24 budget, when combined with the education budget previously signed by the governor, lowers costs on housing, preschool, higher education, and health care.??
