Hi John, it’s Congresswoman Andrea Salinas. I know you’ve heard a lot from my team and me lately about our critical fundraising deadlines or the latest developments in our re-election campaign.
And while those are certainly important, I’m reaching out about something a little different today: My dad.

My father, Roberto.
I know change is possible in a single generation, because that’s the story of my dad.
My dad immigrated from Mexico in 1950. He worked in the fields right alongside my grandparents whenever he wasn’t in school, picking tomatoes and cotton.
After a few years of high school, my dad marched down to the local recruiting office and signed up to join the U.S. Marine Corps. He served two tours in Vietnam and, in exchange for his service, received his U.S. citizenship.
Then in the decades that followed, my dad was able to turn the skills from his service into a good-paying union job that provided a middle-class upbringing for me and my sister.
He never had it easy. But with hard-work and determination, my dad paved his way from the fields to the middle class. And now, I’m fighting to ensure that every family across Oregon and the nation has that same chance.
In Congress, I’m fighting everyday to level the playing field for families like yours and mine. Whether it’s working to raise the minimum wage, create good-paying union jobs, or lower costs for working families, we have a lot of work to do, so I need you in this fight with me. So John, can I count on you to split a donation between Blue Amp Action and my re-election campaign so I can continue to fight for better opportunities for families like ours? [[link removed]]

About BlueAmp Action:
We cannot sugarcoat the current situation. Right-wing authoritarianism, defeated by a worldwide coalition during WWII, was only in hibernation. Over the past decade it has infected democratic societies--including ours. It is as simple as it is terrifying: What we do now will define the future of our country and world.
We at Blue Amp Action are dedicated to liberal, open societies, where reason and science are applied to solve our problems; where civil rights--including voting rights!--are protected for all. We fight for these values every day. Speaking up on our platforms, raising the voices and the political prospects of liberal pols and pundits.
And savvy grassroots activists like you know, just like we do, that we can’t stop watching the people we help elect: after the elections, we have to keep organizing support for the policies we like and pushing back against the ones we don’t.
When the public tunes out between elections and the only people our elected officials hear from are the paid lobbyists of wealthy corporations, our government stops being accountable to the needs of ordinary families.
Democracy never sleeps, and neither can we.
So we ask that you support our work, so we can continue to engage in this fight every moment of every day. So our kids grow up in democracy, not dystopia.
Thank you for your support for all we do! Please follow Cliff Schecter on Twitter @cliffschecter, or subscribe to The Takedown with Cliff Schecter on YouTube, to keep up to date with this battle for the heart and soul of our country.
