A Message From Congresswoman Sherrill

Dear Friends,

Thank you to everyone who joined me at Montclair State University for my town hall focused on gun violence prevention. Listening to different perspectives from community members is critical to my ability to fight for New Jersey in Washington. I am proud of the way our district comes together to tackle the real challenges before us.

We had so many thoughtful questions from parents, teachers, and community members. In Congress, I remain laser focused on fighting for common sense gun safety measures, such as an assault weapons ban and safe storage laws. Learn more about how I’m standing up for our community’s safety here

If you were unable to join me in person at my town hall, you can watch a recording of it here.

I also want to thank Essex County Acting Prosecutor Ted Stephens and Bob Davison, CEO of the Mental Health Association (MHA) of Essex and Morris, for joining us. Prosecutor Stephens shared how Essex County is working alongside federal, state, and local community partners to invest in initiatives that are proven to reduce gun violence. Bob Davison discussed how our children are incredibly resilient, but the constant threat of gun violence is taking a toll on their mental health and their ability to learn in school. That’s why my team and I worked closely with Bob and his team at the MHA to secure federal funding for a Community Project to help schools and youth organizations across NJ-11 strengthen mental health offerings and implement suicide prevention programs.
