Dear John,
With just under a week left until an important election on August 8th, I want to draw your attention to an issue that is of paramount significance for our democratic process. On this day, we, the people of Ohio, will have the opportunity to decide whether to maintain a simple majority in our democratic system, a principle that lies at the heart of our representative government.
This election is not about party politics; it transcends partisan lines, with both Republicans and Democrats coming together to denounce it as a blatant power grab by the current GOP members of the state legislature in Columbus. It is a moment where we must stand united as concerned citizens and put the interests of the Ohio people above party affiliations.
The current elected members of the Ohio Republican Party have shown a concerning lack of backbone. They prioritize party loyalty over the needs and wishes of the people they represent. Former Republican Governors and local republican candidates openly denounce Issue 1. However, current elected officials and hopefuls are willing to sacrifice the principles they claim to hold dear to maintain favor with the party, including my former opponent.
It is disheartening to witness these elected officials selling out their fellow Ohioans for political expediency. Their allegiance to their party over the people is a betrayal of the very essence of democracy. We cannot allow this pattern to continue unchallenged.
On August 8th, we have the opportunity to make our voices heard loud and clear. We must reject Issue 1, which seeks to undermine the power of the people in our democratic process.
I implore you all to mark your calendars and head to the polls on August 8th to vote NO. Let's send a resounding message to those in power that we will not stand idly by while our democracy is undermined. Our united stand will serve as a reminder to these elected officials that they must represent the interests of the people, not their own party agendas.
Thank you for your commitment to our shared values, and I look forward to standing alongside each and every one of you on August 8th as we vote to protect the future of our great state. Vote NO on August 8th!
Warm regards,
Matthew Diemer
