John,
Most small towns in Honduras are nestled high in the mountains and miles away from the closest urban center. This is exactly the case for Las Selvas, a town so small that many Hondurans had a hard time placing it on a map.
But recently, Las Selvas got a lot more buzz-ier. Why? Beekeeping. Because of your act of kindness, Heifer’s Leveraging Success project made Honduras buzz about this little town, which is now a beekeeping hub thanks to the construction of a honey processing plant.

Many farmers in the Leveraging Success project originally began beekeeping to produce income between harvest seasons — but quickly learned it could become more than a hobby. The processing plant allows farmers to grow bigger and better bee farms and creates jobs in the communities.
Bees might be tiny critters, but they're making a mighty big difference for these farmers and their communities! Farmers who keep bees see increased crop yields — some doubled their output — whether they grow coffee, delicious spices or nutritious vegetables. The extra yield lets farmers add some sweetness to their income, helping manage basic living costs and provide for their families' needs.
Beekeeping represents an exciting future for farmers and the environment in Honduras, and we can’t wait to see where this sweet journey takes them.
