Welcome to Thursday, February 20th, latitudes and longitudes...

They should have broadcast the Las Vegas debate on Pay-Per-View.

After a $400 million ad (and meme) campaign, former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg earned a spot on the debate stage–only for his five Democratic rivals to try and KO him.

Here are a few of the punches thrown at Bloomberg:

Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts: “Look, I'll support whoever the Democratic nominee is, but understand this: Democrats take a huge risk if we just substitute one arrogant billionaire for another.”

Former Vice President Joe Biden: “The mayor says that he has a great record. The fact of the matter is, he has not managed his city very — very well when he was there. He didn't get a lot done. He has stop and frisk, throwing close to 5 million young black men up against a wall.”

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar: “I think we need something different than Donald Trump. I don't think you look at Donald Trump and say, 'We need somebody richer in the White House.'”

What do you think of the 2020 Democratic contenders?

The Case for Medicare for All

This is our first in a series on Medicare For All, explaining the Pros of the healthcare plan. Con is coming.

Medicare For All would:

  • Create a national, single-payer health insurance program
  • Provide everyone in America with comprehensive healthcare coverage, with no out-of-pocket costs
  • Medicare coverage would be expanded to include dental, hearing, and vision care

YES, a study published last year found that if Bernie Sanders’ Medicare For All proposal was enacted, it would cost $32 trillion in new federal revenue over 10 years. BUT we’re already currently spending $3.6 trillion a year on healthcare.

And according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, by 2027 the U.S. will be spending around $6 trillion annually on healthcare.

Under the Radar

What Makes a Terrible President

C-SPAN intermittently ranks all U.S. presidents, and its most recent list, in 2017, placed the usual contenders at the bottom: John Tyler, Warren G. Harding, Franklin Pierce, Andrew Johnson, James Buchanan.

"The presidents at the bottom were the ones who failed to safeguard us and adequately lead us during periods of crisis, or tainted the office through scandal and incompetence," said Don Levy, director of the Siena College Research Institute, which has been ranking presidents since 1982.

He continued: "Andrew Johnson, James Buchanan, Warren G. Harding–they earned their spots at the bottom."

We look at the reasons why here. Take a peek, then answer:

Are there certain qualities all terrible presidents share?
