Ohio's Issue 1 Continue reading.

John,

Ohio's special election is August 8th.

Issue 1 is on the ballot on August 8th to change the support threshold needed for constitutional amendments.

Per Common Cause, "If Issue 1 were to pass, amendments would require 60% +1 to pass. That means 40% of voters could block what the majority want." "Politicians...say Issue 1 will protect...from out-of-state special interests. But ...if Issue 1 passes, only special interests with deep pockets will be able to bring issues to the ballot."

Per the Human Rights Campaign: "The vote on Issue 1 comes in advance of a November ballot initiative that would make abortion a legal right in Ohio. That ballot initiative...would face a 60% threshold if Issue 1 succeeds in August."

John, the Republican Party is using this to block the support of the majority of the electorate for abortion rights, working rights, and more. Ohio has a GOP supermajority, and they are behind the proposition of Issue 1. This may be happening in Ohio now, but the GOP will take this nationwide if given the opportunity.

Rights across the board are under attack! No Dem Left Behind supports the “vote no” campaign on Issue 1 for Ohio and rejects any attempts by Republican majority legislatures to thwart the will of voters. If you support the effort to make sure that all voices are heard and to make constitutional amendments stay within reach of the majority, then chip in today and help us spread the word!
