Dear Rebels,

The Strategy Stewardship Team (SST) is embarking on a process to create an overarching strategy for XR UK that will bring us together, united under a common vision, mission, and broad strategic direction. It will provide guidance as we plan for the October Rebellion and act as a starting point for National Working Groups, Local Groups, and the international community when developing their own strategies.

We are in an emergency with fewer than 10 weeks to go until the October Rebellion, and we need a clear strategy. The process below is designed with the urgency of our situation in mind, while honouring the need for transparency, inclusivity, and feedback.

We recognise it isn’t perfect and ask you to bear with us. In November, we will be running another strategy process that leaves plenty of time for movement-wide consultation, resulting in a more representative strategy to take us into 2020.

The Strategy Process: An Overview

The strategy will be developed over a three-week period. It will involve the Strategy Team, representing National Working Groups, including our International Links. They will receive input and feedback from representatives of the wider UK movement.

Week One:

• A template strategy framework, called the Strategy House, has been sent to National Working Groups and Local Groups to fill in with their ideas. If you'd like to be involved, contact whoever checks your group's inbox. If your group has not received an email, please let us know via this form and we'll be in touch soon.

• A facilitated workshop with the Strategy Team will take place on Wed 7th August. It will work to combine the Strategy House submissions from the movement into a single draft proposal.

Week Two:

• We hope to form a strategy panel via sortition, the process used to select representatives for a Citizens’ Assembly. We will work with the Citizens’ Assembly Group to see what is possible.

• The Strategy House draft will be given to the Sortition Panel for feedback.

• The feedback from the panel, and any Strategy Houses from the movement that didn’t meet the first week deadline, will form the basis of a second facilitated workshop with the Strategy Team.

• SST is looking at the possibility for online workshops where the movement will be invited to feedback on specific tensions/challenges – one topic per workshop.

Week Three:

• After another round of feedback, a third workshop will produce a final draft strategy.

• The final draft will be submitted to the Sortition Panel for structured feedback.

• The strategy will be launched across XR UK.

• SST will gather learnings that will inform the November strategy stewardship process.

We’re on this beautiful journey together, and we won’t always get it right, but we’re defined by how we learn, grow, and keep on going.
