We’re reaching out because what the GOP has been pulling lately in Congress CANNOT stand.
The same week DeSantis said Black people “benefited” from enslavement, our Republican colleagues once again co-opted the language of a “two-tier justice system” to make it sound like Trump and his henchmen are somehow the victims – dismissing and degrading the subjugation of Black and brown folks in this country.
The real two-tier justice system is that 1 in 3 Black men born today can expect to be incarcerated. That Black men comprise about 13% of the male population, but about 35% of those incarcerated. It’s the lynching of Emmett Till. The brutal murder of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. And the wrongful conviction of the Central Park Five.
I refuse to tolerate GOP politicians attempting to hijack the language of the Black Lives Matter and civil rights movements just to defend Donald Trump – and neither will Summer.

Republicans would rather use precious time in Congress drumming up outrage among MAGA voters than addressing real issues & crises — like the over-criminalization and incarceration of Black folks in this country.
We can’t let them distract from the true victims of our country’s two-tier justice system, especially not in service of defending Trump.
