Friend,
What Latino movies do you love?
For the past two years, I’ve been working with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to nominate Latino-focused films to the National Film Registry, a division of the Library of Congress that works to preserve movies with an important place in American life and culture.
Latinos make up nearly 20% of the United States, and we’re the largest ethnic group in Texas – but Latino focused films are just three percent of the movies on the registry. I’m on a mission to change that.
As we prepare this year’s nomination list for the National Film Registry, I want to hear from you about the Latino movies that have a special place in your heart. In 2021, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus got San Antonio’s own Selena added to the National Film Registry, and I’m hoping that we’ll get even more Latino movies added this year.
The deadline to submit suggestions for my nomination list is Thursday, August 3, and movies must be at least ten years old to qualify. To send in your suggestions, click here.
I’m excited to hear about the movies that made an impact on your life To read the full list of Latino-focused movies that are currently in the National Film Registry, click here.
Thank you,
Joaquin Castro
