Lead with Lillian
[link removed] [[link removed]]
This year's Lead with Lillian will be on Sunday, September 24 at 3pm at the Durham Arts Council. We hope you'll join us for this empowering event, with even more to come on the dynamic program!
Sponsor or get tickets today! [[link removed]]
A generous anonymous donor is currently matching all contributions to the event.
At the event, we'll award the Jan Allen Courage Award to an amazing woman legislator who has been fighting for us in the NC House or Senate. (Stay tuned for more!) We'll also hear from Attorney Jenn Mahan from the national Center for Reproductive Rights about how NC is a pivotal state for abortion access nationwide.
Jenn Mahan is a State Legislative Fellow on the U.S. State Policy and Advocacy team at the Center for Reproductive Rights. Jenn tracks and analyzes abortion-related legislation in all 50 states and D.C. She has completed a fellowship with Regulatory Assistance for Abortion Providers (RAAP) and an If/When/How state policy fellowship with SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW in Atlanta.
We can't wait to bring our community together to get fired up about electing more progressive women in 2024! We hope to see you at Lead with Lillian [[link removed]] !
Cotham Lashes out at LL in the NYT
On Sunday, the New York Times published an article [[link removed]] that sheds more light on Tricia Cotham's defection to the Republican party.
Lillian's List also gets a mention: "[Cotham] fumed that Lillian’s List, an abortion rights organization, had 'really screwed' her by endorsing another Democrat in the primary."
The article points out that this plan may have been in the works for some time, noting "...the influential people who had privately encouraged Ms. Cotham to run were Republicans, not Democrats. One was Tim Moore , the redoubtable Republican speaker of the state House. Another was John Bell, the Republican majority leader."
The truth is that in 2022, we were proud to recruit and endorse Dr. Yolanda Holmes , a local community leader and true champion for reproductive rights.
Despite the setbacks North Carolinians have faced because of Cotham's deceit, we are still fighting. Lillian's List is actively recruiting real progressive women candidates who are ready to run against Cotham or any other anti-choice Republicans after redistricting.
We need your help [[link removed]] to continue our recruiting and training programs, and our rigorous candidate vetting process to ensure we have real progressive women who will stand up for reproductive justice and gender equity in the NCGA.
Thank you for being a part of the Lillian's List community.
Help us reach gender parity in North Carolina politics!
