This resolution, and my work to remove the lesser prairie-chicken from the endangered species list, pushes back against big government. The Biden Administration continues to use unscientific claims to wage proxy wars on the agriculture and energy industries and private landowners everywhere.  Science shows that lesser prairie-chicken populations increase and decrease based on rainfall. We need more rain, not more regulation. President Biden’s rules fly in the face of rural Americans who have worked tirelessly to voluntarily conserve our natural resources and animal habitats. Congress has spoken, and I hope that President Biden will listen – farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers are the original conservationists, and the federal government must get out of their way and let them do what they do best. Watch My Remarks on the House Floor: Investing in U.S. Military, Fully Funding Veterans’ Health Care Programs Kansas is home to 200,000 veterans, and I'm proud to support the brave men and women who have served, and those who are currently serving, in our nation's military. America is great today because of their sacrifices. I supported the Fiscal Year 2024 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act because it strengthens our national security, protects our bases, and funds benefits and health care for our nation’s heroes. The legislation does all of this while also cutting wasteful spending that has been on the rise over the years. I commend my colleagues for passing this legislation, which serves as a perfect example of how to responsibly steward taxpayer dollars while supporting those who most deserve our respect. Click Here to Read More. Examining Challenges Facing Rural Small Businessses Rural small business owners are being hamstringed by the Biden Administration’s big government overreach. Last Wednesday, at a House Committee on Small Business hearing, I asked Kansas farmer Matt Splitter and Missouri farmer Jennifer Cassaday how they have been negatively impacted by federal regulations. Watch the Conversation Below:   Kansans in the Office Kansas State FFA Officers I enjoyed visiting with the 2023-2024 Kansas FFA state officers while they were in Washington, D.C. last week. Since their election in June, they have been traveling the state and country meeting with stakeholders, attending leadership workshops, and hosting leadership training events for FFA chapter officers.  I especially appreciated hearing their thoughts on the upcoming Farm Bill. The next generation deserves a seat at the table when Congress crafts farm and food policy. As an alumnus of the Quinter FFA Chapter and the co-founder of the Congressional FFA Caucus, it is a pleasure to help bring their voices into these conversations. Matt and Janna Splitter, Splitter Farms I was honored to host Matt and Janna Splitter in my office last week. Matt was on Capitol Hill to appear before the House Small Business Committee where he discussed the challenges that rural small business owners are facing. I highlighted Matt and Jana as my Kansas Ag Heroes of the Month in June because they work tirelessly and they are passing on the tradition of agriculture to their children. In his testimony, Matt spoke about how big government overreach and overregulation can hurt agricultural producers.  Matt and Janna, thank you for your work, for your testimony, and for all that you do to put food on our tables. Kansas Wheat The Big First District of Kansas leads the country in wheat production and has a long legacy of shaping policy that directly impacts farmers and ranchers. I enjoyed meeting with Kansas Wheat last week to discuss how the Farm Bill can best support them as they deal with Mother Nature, inflation, and the burden of feeding the world. I am honored to have been named a Wheat Advocate by the National Association of Wheat Growers and am thankful to Kansas Wheat for the nomination. Miss Kansas 2023 Courtney Wages and Joe Nail are making innovative strides serving their communities. Courtney is Miss Kansas 2023, and she advocates for the blind and visually impaired using her platform “One Vision is Not the Only Vision: Eye See You”. Joe is the CEO and Founder of Lead for America, a non-profit that equips people to be exceptional leaders serving the place they call home - especially rural communities.
