A Month in Review: July 2023 Congressional Update

It has been a busy but incredible month in both El Paso and DC.

In early July, I hope you saw that I had the wonderful opportunity to host the Department of Agriculture's Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Jenny Moffitt, and Mitch Landrieu, Senior Advisor to President Biden and White House Infrastructure Coordinator in El Paso. A key priority of mine in Congress has been to bring administration officials and other Members of Congress to our community to highlight and advocate for our needs.

In Washington, we wrapped up a busy month. I'm troubled by the increased amount of divisiveness on what has always been traditionally bipartisan bills, including the National Defense Authorization Act and other government funding bills.

Centers like the David L. Carrasco Jobs Corps Center contribute to our community's talented, diverse workforce.

It was wonderful to meet with staff and learn more about their training programs.

It was a joy to stop by the El Paso VA Summer VetFest and PACT Act Claims Clinic.

As the only representative in our region to vote for expanding benefits to servicemembers exposed to toxic substances, I'm proud to support our troops that have already sacrificed so much for us.

Did you know that qualifying organizations can receive free books from the Library of Congress by requesting them through my office?

I was proud to donate books to Vinton’s Little Free Library and bring the importance of reading to more individuals in our community.

It was a pleasure to speak to the Greater El Paso Association of Realtors about housing, the Dignity Act, and federal infrastructure investments in El Paso, including the Bridge of the Americas Expansion Project.

I was recently honored by City Council for my role in making Castner Range a national monument.

I’m humbled by this gesture and immensely proud to have secured our crown jewel of West Texas, protecting it for generations to come.

I also had the opportunity to present the city with a Congressional Record celebrating 150 years of El Paso.

It is the honor of my lifetime to represent my beautiful hometown in Congress.

I always have such a blast stopping by senior centers to visit familiar faces and talk about my work in Congress.

I had the honor of presenting Mr. Richard Morrado with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in tribute to his mother, Maria De La Paz Morrado-Hoover for her service to our country.

It was special to share such an emotional moment with her son.

Congratulations to PROD Design and Analysis for winning the Sustainability in Automation Award earlier this year!

It's always difficult but imperative that we speak about the impacts of food insecurity on our community because no one should ever have to go hungry—period.

Over the past decade, Texas Tech Univeristy Health Sciences Center El Paso has made incredible contributions for our community. In celebration of its 10th birthday, I presented Dr. Lange, President and Dean of the Foster School of Medicine, with a Congressional Record and had a tour of the Dental Clinic.

Wreck 'Em!

This month, my office held an information session about the naturalization process.

Becoming a naturalized citizen is a powerful, yet arduous process. I'm glad we made the process a little less difficult!
