There’s a lot at stake in Ohio. The election on August 8 will determine if the threshold for voters to pass amendments to the state constitution will be raised from a simple majority to 60%.
If passed, Issue 1 would make it significantly more difficult to amend the state’s constitution, and will have an immediate impact on Ohioans’ efforts to pass an amendment guaranteeing abortion rights in November.
All Ohio voters deserve the right to weigh in on this question. Unfortunately, earlier this year, Ohio enacted one of the strictest voter ID laws in the country. Voters may not yet know that they need one of four types of unexpired, photo ID to cast a ballot next week. It’s up to us to make sure they know.
