This is it. The special election called by Ohio’s MAGA GOP to rewrite the
rules of democracy wraps up in one week. 

Thanks to your support, we’ve been able to send over 100,000 texts to Ohio
voters so far, and our ‘vote tripling program’ where we ask respondents to
get three housemates to vote has seen unprecedented success in getting
‘unlikely’ voters to the polls. Our groups have held dozens of canvassing
events, organized phonebanks, and sent 10,000+ postcards. 

We’ve done all this work because we understand the stakes. If this MAGA
referendum passes and Republicans succeed in making it harder for voters
to amend their constitution, we can kiss our hopes of protecting abortion
rights in Ohio this November and unrigging the state’s gerrymandered maps
next year goodbye. The Ohio GOP will continue to entrench their power
without fear of accountability. and inevitably, Republicans in other
states will follow suit. 

The thing is, the far-right understands these stakes too. And as things
have started to look very good for our prospects of defeating this
initiative, they’ve begun a multi-million dollar last-minute blitz of ads
and mailers aimed at sowing misinformation in order to confuse voters and
increase the chances that this shameless MAGA power grab will pass.

Who are we talking about? Well, [ [link removed] ]according to the president of “Ohio
Right to Life,” (the main anti-choice group behind this special election),
THE NRA “is standing shoulder to shoulder with Ohio Right to Life and
telling their members… to vote yes on issue 1.” 

We’re already seeing some disgusting anti-trans ads on the airwaves aimed
at confusing voters about the ballot measure. Ohio voters can apparently
also expect to now see a number of mailers and/or ads funded by gun
lobbyists claiming they must vote yes to prevent their guns from being
seized. All of this is to distract voters from the real purpose of this
referendum, which Republicans have admitted is [ [link removed] ]“100%” about preventing
voters from restoring abortion rights.

So what are we going to do about it? Well, we’re going to work every day
from now through August 8 to earn every vote we can to win this thing.

with all that’s on the line and the dark money arrayed against us, we’re

This week we have our big national texting party, and over the next few
days, our groups will be hitting the pavement and knocking on doors to
reach every voter they can. With your support fueling this work, we’re
going to win next week, help Ohioans codify reproductive freedom in their
constitution this November, and pass fair maps next year.
