The alchemy of the women’s leadership academy

There’s something about Poynter’s Leadership Academy for Women in Media ([link removed]) akin to a cocoon. We hear time and again that leaders come to this storied Poynter program depleted or directionless, and emerge fulfilled and reoriented.
It’s a transformation from a “before” to a distinct “after” that we call Poynter magic.
But what alchemy happens in the middle? Yes, leadership cohort members effectively enter a haven for transformation, leaving their day-to-day responsibilities for a “cone of silence,” where they can focus on their own personal growth in confidence. But even more than this space or any specific leadership lesson, we have heard from more than 550 alumni that the Poynter magic comes from the group itself. Each person in the room, from participants to instructors, is carefully selected for their unique contributions. It’s the electric current formed by the community that sparks transformation.
We’re looking for the next cohort to bring the magic. Applications for the 2024 Leadership Academy for Women in Media ([link removed]) open today. See details — and other opportunities for Poynter magic — below.
