** Monday Nature Mystery

We are pleased to announce the winner of our Monday Nature Mystery, Ginny McNair. (Please email your snail mail address and preference for a hat or tote bag to [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) ).

Congratulations to Ginny for identifying the Northern Pearly-eye (Enodia antheron). According to the University of Wisconsin ([link removed]) , this species of butterfly is the closest we have to a nocturnal butterfly. While most butterflies love the sun, this is a shade-loving butterfly, found in wooded areas. Unlike the Rosy Maple Moth from last week, this butterfly can hear, but instead of ears it has swollen, fluid-filled, enervated veins on the underside of its forewings!
