As we continue to see a rise in new laws that seek to target immigrants across the country, it’s important that we know our rights. A new Florida bill

** JULY 2023 NEWSLETTER 📰
------------------------------------------------------------
Hi John,

I’m Denia Pérez, the Legal Services Director at Immigrants Rising and I’m here to share some updates with you.

A new Florida bill, widely criticized for being overtly anti-immigrant, took effect this month. It’s called SB 1718 ([link removed]) and among other things, it criminalizes the transportation of individuals into the state who may have entered the country unlawfully and have not been “inspected” by the federal government since.

In response, a group of organizations, including the Southern Poverty Law Center, ACLU of Florida, Americans for Immigrant Justice, and the American Immigration Council, filed a joint federal lawsuit challenging the law ([link removed]) , calling it “extreme and unconstitutional.”

As we continue to see a rise in new laws that seek to target immigrants across the country, it’s important that we know our rights ([link removed]) . Though there is a lot outside of our control, there are also many ways we can protect ourselves, our families, and our communities.

See below for relevant resources that you might find helpful.

Wishing you a safe and restful summer,
Denia Pérez
