John,
July is Disability Pride Month, a celebration of disabled activists and an affirmation of the dignity, agency, worth, and rights of people with disabilities.
Today and every day, Cori Bush advocates for the human right to make decisions about our own bodies, which is central to reproductive justice and disability justice.
But in our ableist society, disabled people face extra attacks on autonomy and self-determination, such as institutionalization and state-sanctioned sterilization without consent. Disabled people also experience discrimination and additional barriers when seeking health care, including abortion care.
To save lives, remove barriers, and address gaps in sexual and reproductive health, Congresswoman Cori Bush reintroduced the Reproductive Health Care Accessibility Act last week.
This legislation would:
-
Increase the representation of disabled people in the physician and nursing workforce.
-
Provide grant funding to train reproductive health care providers to ensure more competent care for people with disabilities.
-
Establish a technical assistance center to provide recommendations and best practices, and more.
Please sign the petition today to respect disabled people’s human rights and support the Reproductive Health Care Accessibility Act.
