Today is World Ranger Day! We honor the brave Virunga National Park Rangers who risk their lives each day to protect the Park's natural resources, the local communities, and the wildlife, including the endangered mountain gorillas.
Virunga is the most dangerous National Park in the world for Rangers. They routinely face harsh physical conditions, injury, or even death. Over 200 Rangers have been killed in the line of duty defending the 2-million-acre park from poachers, militants, and environmental exploitation.
LCA is proud to provide monthly support to the Virunga AirWing division and most recently, we provided a Bathawk Medivac. Because of the Park’s enormous expanse, the Virunga AirWing is vital in helping to protect the animals and the Rangers.
