Friday marked two years since the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. While the House has passed new common-sense gun legislation in the time since, this legislation is now being held up by Mitch McConnell and Republicans in the Senate — despite 60% of Americans supporting stricter gun laws.

In the last seven years, there's only been one full calendar week without a mass shooting. Americans are 25 times more likely to die from gun violence than residents of peer nations.

 

Gun violence on this scale is not normal.

 

Americans deserve to feel safe in public spaces, whether it be in movie theaters, malls, or schools. We cannot let conservative officials who are in the pocket of the NRA stop us from making public spaces safer for us and our children.
