Dear Friend,

The past few weeks have been extremely busy both at home in New Mexico and in the People’s House! From fighting for public lands, to improving our water infrastructure, to delivering crucial wins for our district — I am reminded every single day of the incredible honor and privilege I have to represent our community in Congress. I'm honored to be your champion and advocate in Washington.

Honoring Juneteenth

Last month, we honored Juneteenth. One of my first votes in Congress was to designate Juneteenth as a federal holiday. This past month I got the chance to honor Juneteenth with some of our Albuquerque community! Its essential to honor the history, freedom, and resilience of the Black community.

Supporting Our First Responders

Every year, fire season gets worse. Our firefighters risk their lives to protect our communities and our natural resources, especially in New Mexico. I’m proud to cosponsor Tim’s Act to give firefighters the pay and benefits they deserve. We stand with our firefighters!

Water Rights

It’s always a pleasure to talk water with my fellow water nerds and celebrate our work to address New Mexico's water future! Water is our lifeblood and access to clean drinking water is a human right. That’s why I won’t stop fighting to prioritize access to clean drinking water for the health of present and future generations.

Helping and supporting our young students

I had an amazing time with the extraordinary young women participating in this year’s Tech Trek from across NM! I had the privilege of discussing my role in Congress with them and give legislative updates on all things New Mexico! It is these young leaders that will challenge us to do better and fight harder!

Putting our community needs in New Mexico FIRST!

This past month we submitted our priorities for the Farm Bill to address the needs of our communities in New Mexico. Our submissions will address drought and climate resilience, support our acequias and land grants, and improve food security for our communities.

Cosponsoring the Udall Foundation Reauthorization Act

I was proud to cosponsor the Udall Foundation Reauthorization Act , which would continue to fund the Udall Foundation and allow for more Pueblo students from across New Mexico to participate in the Regis and Pecos Youth Leadership Program. The future is Indigenous!

Fighting FOR Public Lands and AGAINST Oil and Drilling Companies!

The House Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on the Administration's decision to protect the greater Chaco Canyon area from oil and gas development. New Mexico’s sacred spaces, lands, and communities are not for sale. Chaco Canyon is a sacred site, living cultural landscape, and UNESCO World Heritage Site that holds cultural, spiritual, and historical significance for the Pueblo and Navajo people. Congress will never stop fighting for the great nations that have stewarded this land since time immemorial.

Sincerely,
