John, the GOP is the party of blatant hypocrisy.

In recent years, the GOP has run on being against "big government" and
executive, unchecked rule. However, barely beneath the surface is a clear
plan to consolidate power at higher levels and work against the power of

One of the best examples in recent history is Greg Abbott, who has
overridden local laws, regulations, and ordinances to highlight his
political power and deliver on culture war rhetoric. Abbott also
championed the state's abortion ban and bans on interstate travel for the
procedure. The Texas GOP is fine with a government big enough to restrict
a citizen's most personal decisions and the decisions of local governments
attending to the needs of their constituents. 

The rhetoric of the GOP has captured voters' attention, but their intent
with those votes becomes clear once they are in power. They take power
away from smaller governments and then fool the nation into believing that
these places agree with their power grabs.
