Dear John,

May the Peace and Blessings of God be with you. You haven’t received an update about the MPAC Hollywood Bureau in a while. That is because I was blessed to have recently been invited to perform Hajj, and as I transition back to my day-to-day work at MPAC, I can't help but feel a tremendous sense of gratitude, rejuvenation, and empowerment. I am grateful to the leadership of MPAC for seeing the value of our work in the entertainment industry over three decades ago. I'm excited and motivated to tackle the essential work we do in protecting the image of Islam in the media.

This past week, I represented the MPAC Hollywood Bureau at the ColorComm annual conference in Miami, Florida. ColorComm is the ultimate business conference for women of color in communications and provides a safe space to address pressing issues. I was honored to speak on a fireside chat with Trisch Smith, Global Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at Edelman, which is the world's largest Public Relations firm. We discussed how faith informs our work in cultural and narrative change and how the MPAC Hollywood Bureau impacts the perception of Muslims when there is so much misinformation about our community.

During the conference, I was thrilled to meet and be inspired by many incredible women, including Edelman's Global Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer Trisch Smith,  Huma Abedin, MSNBC President Rashida Jones, and CBS Saturday Morning's Michelle Miller.

It was an honor to have the MPAC Hollywood Bureau included at this year’s ColorComm conference and be among those who are pioneers in communities of color. As we approach the 2024 U.S. presidential election, it’s more important than ever that we connect with those who have the power to shape the media’s narrative about Muslims. We look forward to continuing our engagement with members of the media as we work to frame better stories and shift narratives for Muslims across all platforms.
