Dear John,
To be completely honest with you, I hate asking for money. It’s easily one of my least favorite parts of the job. And you might be thinking, it’s the off-year — what’s the point?
It’s a fair question! But the thing is, when you run for Congress every two years, campaigning never really stops. And remember all of the work it took to get here?
We faced an extremely competitive and contested primary. At many points, we were outraised, outspent, and down in the polls. Next year, it’s likely that we could face another competitive primary, and conservative interest groups could come out of the woodwork to spend against us. We cannot take a single thing for granted — and we cannot let our campaign operation lapse.
Grassroots contributions from people like you are the reason why a candidate like me — a lesbian mom and the daughter of an immigrant — can get elected to Congress.
John, I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important, but we need all hands on deck to keep our campaign operation running smoothly. If you can swing it, will you chip in $10 or more before tonight’s end-of-month deadline so I can continue fighting for you?
