Dear John,

Recent News

I hope everyone had a safe and fun July 4th! This month has been a busy time up in DC. My fellow Republicans and I have been working to save the American taxpayer money by passing the House Appropriation Bills. I have also had the opportunity to meet with constituents here at home and in Washington! As we reach the beginning of August recess, I am excited to spend time with my family and make my way across our district. Please make sure to check out the Upcoming Events sections to see when I will be in your area!

I am also extremely grateful to all of you who took time out of your day to respond to my constituent survey card. It was a privilege to speak with several of you this month. Your feedback is instrumental in my ability to do my job in Washington.

D.C. Update

Here is just a snapshot of some of the legislation we have been able to pass this month!

H.R. 2670 – National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024
-The FY24 National Defense Authorization Act contains enormous wins for national security      and military families and includes conservative priorities to gut the administration’s political      agenda that has no place in our military. This year’s NDAA focuses on capitalizing on      innovation to increase real lethality of the Joint Force, strengthening capabilities and      partnerships to counter the Chinese Communist Party’s increased military aggression,      adequately equipping our warfighters to complete their missions, and ensuring vigorous      oversight of taxpayer dollars at the Pentagon.
     -Supports servicemembers and their families.
-Ends Democrat efforts to inject wokeness into the military.
-Strengthens oversight and fiscal accountability at the Pentagon.
-Strengthens strategic deterrence, lethal capabilities, and promotes innovation.
-Counters aggression from the Chinese Communist Party
-Provides a pathway back to the armed forces for servicemembers who refused to take the      COVID vaccine.
-Provides DoD support in securing the border.
-Fully funds the National Guard’s border deployment account.

H.R. 1548 – Improving Access to Small Business Information Act
-Exempts the Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation within the      Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from the most burdensome aspects of the      Paperwork Reduction Act.
-Streamlines access to tools that the Office of the Advocate can utilize to gather more      effective and timely data from small businesses.
-Authorizes the Office of the Advocate to become a more impactful voice in support of      American entrepreneurs and capital formation by enabling the Advocate to engage with      American small businesses with less friction.

 H.R. 3941 – Schools Not Shelters Act
-Prohibits public elementary and secondary schools and institutions of higher education that      receive federal funding from the Department of Education from using their facilities to      shelter or house aliens who have not been admitted into the United States.

D.C. Update

Several weeks ago, I had the opportunity to recognize 135 young men and women from the House floor from TX-06 who have enlisted in our United States Military branches. I am proud of the great oath that they have taken. I also want to recognize seven students from my district who received a congressional nomination and appointment to attend the USNA, USAFA, USMA, or the USMMA. I appreciate their willingness to serve. Thank you to all these families for supporting their path.

This month I visited Cherokee and Anderson Counties during my visits I sat down with members of the community, community leaders, our local colleges, and businesses. It is a privilege to serve a district with many institutions with post-secondary programs. We are outputting the leaders, business professionals, artists, teachers, nurses, and tradesmen of tomorrow right in our backyards. I sat and visited with several students currently in the nursing program at UT Tyler Palestine campus and got a firsthand tour of the simulation labs where hands-on training is taking place. Watching this level of training gives me great confidence in the medical caregivers of the future. This district also houses Jacksonville College, which is one of the oldest continuously operating private junior colleges in the state of Texas. I enjoyed the campus tour and learning more about their rich history and their dedication to the students they serve.

Nearing 50 school districts in TX-06, and as many of you - our superintendents, administrators, teachers, coaches, directors, and staff start a new school year this week and next, I want to wish you well. I appreciate all that you do to support our students and families in TX-06. Your dedication to education, to your district, and above all to your students in the classroom is admirable. My sincere thanks to all of you, and please know you are appreciated for your heart, service, and devotion to our children.

Good luck to all our elementary, junior high, high school, and college students as you return this fall semester. Safe travels to those headed back to their college and universities. There are many wonderful things in store for you.

Enjoy the 2023-2024 school year!
