Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI)?Program Survey

The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry (DACF) is preparing a proposal to request just under $4 million as part of the USDA?s Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) program.

USDA developed the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) program to work with states and tribal governments across the US with the goal of developing and administering coordinated initiatives to build resilience across the middle-of-the-food-supply-chain within the states.

As part of outreach to Maine food systems stakeholders to determine funding priority areas, MDACF is soliciting feedback. To meet the goals of USDA and best serve the needs of Maine?s unique food and farm sector, DACF is seeking the input of farms, food businesses, food supply-chain businesses, and organizations that provide services to those businesses. Your answers will help us shape the best-possible RFSI program.

Per USDA definitions, the food supply chain involves the following stages: 1. Production, 2. Processing, 3. Aggregation/Distribution, and 4. Markets/Consumers. For the purposes of RFSI, ?middle-of-the-supply-chain? refers to the middle stages: 2. Processing and 3. Aggregation/Distribution.

This survey is intended for all involved in the middle-of-the-food-supply-chain, including but not limited to farms/farmers, agricultural businesses, agricultural organizations, institutions, and intermediaries (such as food hubs, aggregators, wholesalers, and distributors).
