Dear John,

While the entertainment industry has GROUND TO A HALT, with both the
WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA and the SCREEN ACTORS GUILD ON STRIKE for fair
contracts, we at Plastic Pollution Coalition are continuing to WORK BEHIND
THE SCENES to ensure Hollywood can RETURN TO WORK FREE OF PLASTIC
POLLUTION, BOTH ON SCREEN AND ON SET.

We’ve been working hard to FLIP THE SCRIPT ON PLASTICS [8]. Thanks to
your GENEROUS DONATIONS, over the last SIX MONTHS we have:

* Collaborated with SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher to launch the Green
Council in partnership with the Motion Picture Association [9], which is
focused on banning single-use plastic bottles from Hollywood sets

* Partnered with Hollywood, Health & Society, to lead a group of TV
writers on an educational Plastic Pollution Toxic Tour [10] across Los
Angeles, to inform them of the harmful effects of plastics throughout their
existence, so they can turn this knowledge into compelling, factual
entertainment

* Sponsored the Hollywood Climate Summit [11], where change makers in
both entertainment and environmental justice gathered to take on climate
change

* Spotlighted our favorite reusables on TV for Plastic Free July [12]

* Curated a webinar with entertainment industry leaders on Greening
Hollywood Sets to Flip the Script on Plastics [13]

WE WILL KEEP WORKING TO ENSURE THAT THE CLIMATE JUSTICE MOVEMENT WITHIN
HOLLYWOOD CONTINUES TO MOVE FORWARD, working with our coalition partners,
industry leaders and insiders, and entertainment unions, to ensure that,
once their contract demands are met, they return to work with all the tools
necessary to REMOVE SINGLE-USE PLASTICS FROM THEIR SETS AND OUR SCREENS.

We know that LIFE IMITATES ART, and by showing PACKAGE-FREE AND REUSABLE
AND REFILLABLE SYSTEMS in popular television shows and movies, we influence
culture and change the perception of TOXIC THROWAWAY PLASTIC as being
normal—because it’s not.

With gratitude,

[Olivia Sparks]
