Friend,

Did you know that anyone with a felony drug conviction is banned from receiving food stamps — for life?

Also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), food stamps lift millions of families out of poverty every year, putting food on the table for those who need it most. Yet due to this outdated policy, hundreds of thousands of people don’t have access to food stamps.

That’s why one of our priorities in Congress this year is passing the RESTORE Act, which would end the cruel ban on food stamps for people with drug convictions.

Your gift to the Drug Policy Alliance will help pass the RESTORE Act this year and ensure families and children get the support they need!

The harmful ban on food stamps disproportionately harms women and people of color. It even punishes children — because when a parent is made ineligible for food stamps, their family receives a much lower overall household benefit. And it makes it harder for formerly incarcerated people to successfully transition back into society.

Here’s the reality: If we want to make our communities safer, happier, and healthier, we need to support everyone in our community — not stigmatize certain individuals.

We need your support to ensure the RESTORE Act makes it to President Biden’s desk. Please make a gift to DPA today!

P.S. Food stamps have been proven to ensure food security, improve health, and reduce the likelihood that someone released from prison will be re-incarcerated. So why would we ban people with felony drug convictions from receiving them? Make a gift to DPA today to help pass the RESTORE Act and end this ban.
