The national media is paying more and more attention to our race every day. Last week, POLITICO reported that Democrats "are entertaining a once-unlikely prospect: retaking the House majority by winning in the South." The story specifically highlighted the SC-01 racial gerrymandering case that will soon come before the Supreme Court. Per POLITICO: "It's impossible to know how many seats could become competitive, but the party is hoping a handful may come into play and that new maps could even threaten the likes of … Nancy Mace." |
Roll Call ran a story explaining how new congressional maps "could be drawn in time to change the electoral landscape in 2024, when Democrats need a net gain of just five seats to take control of the House." According to Roll Call, the SC-01 Supreme Court case "may also impact the federal redistricting litigation in Florida, which involves similar racial gerrymandering claims." |
And back home in the Lowcountry, the Charleston City Paper published an editorial calling on the Supreme Court to redraw the lines of SC-01 — so that the map "reflects the true electoral nature of our lower coast, not a district that the GOP bleached by moving thousands of Black voters to other districts."

Michael expressed solidarity with the workers of the Waffle House on Garners Ferry Road in Columbia, South Carolina, who began a three-day strike on this month after delivering to management their petition to organize. As a business executive with nearly four decades of private sector experience — including several years as a leader in South Carolina's food industry — Michael knows firsthand that employees throughout any organization deserve fair pay and safe working conditions. |
Michael steadfastly stands behind the striking Waffle House staff as they seek sensible concessions from management and strive for a better quality of life for restaurant workers in South Carolina.
He also urged Nancy Mace — who often mentions her past experience as a Waffle House waitress on the campaign trail — to similarly endorse the demands of those on strike. |

Nancy Mace attended a POLITICO event last week, where she warned that Republicans need to refocus on "child care, maternal care, prenatal care [and] abortion" if they want to keep control of the House. It was more cheap talk from Mace, who — time and again — has flip-flopped on the issues that matter most to women and working families. |
Here are the facts:
Nothing about Nancy Mace's record is pro-children or pro-women. She should stop pretending otherwise. |
Michael had a fun weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, where he helped some talented artists promote a forthcoming graphic novel about his great-great-grandfather: Civil War hero and Recontruction-era Congressman Robert Smalls. |
At a time when Republican politicians like Ron DeSantis are seeking to rewrite our nation's history — exploiting partisan divides at the expense of our children's education — Michael believes it's more important than ever for leaders to embrace the totality of America's legacy. |
Part of that important work is elevating the stories of lesser-known patriots like Robert Smalls, who — in the face of unfathomable hardship — never stopped working to make America a more perfect Union. Michael is proud to be seeking the same House seat that his great-great-grandfather held nearly 140 years ago. |
There's so much work to do, and we're only just getting started. Join us in our fight to flip this swing district. Together — indivisible — we'll build a brighter future for South Carolina. |
