Hiroshima and Nagasaki
remembrance events across the UK
In the week that's seen Donald Trump scrap a flagship US-Russia nuclear arms control treaty, it's more important than ever to remember the two days when nuclear weapons were used to kill hundreds of thousands of people.
No-one cognizant of the horrors committed by the US Air Force on the 6th and 9th August 1945 could contemplate such a wanton act of diplomatic vandalism as scrapping the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty.

We cannot allow Europe to become a theatre of nuclear war for this increasingly bellicose US President.
Join your nearest Hiroshima & Nagasaki event this week to remember the horrific events and build a movement to stop the slide to nuclear proliferation and war.

Two nuclear bombs that shook the world
On 6 August 1945, the US dropped an atomic bomb called “Little Boy” on Hiroshima in Japan. Three days later a second atomic bomb (“Fat Man”) was dropped on the city of Nagasaki. These are the only times nuclear weapons have been used in war.
The firestorm in Hiroshima destroyed five square miles of the city. Almost 63% of the buildings in Hiroshima were destroyed after the bombing and nearly 92% of the structures in the city were destroyed or damaged by blast and fire.
By the end of 1950 over 340,000 people were dead as a result of the two bombings, not only through the blasts themselves but as a result of the deadly radiation they released.
